Resident shirpa guide David Prentice has the trail and launch in great shape.
Other out of state pilots have contributed. Steve, Mel, Dovie, thanks. It is
very rewarding for me to see pilots showing up. I hope you all were rewarded
with good flights. Thanks for flying safe.

TexasOpen Nat. Fly-in, July 28-30, or come early and stay all week! Tent camp and RV
at the airport. Add your name to the list. www.flexwing.org/txopen Other lodging
available very near the airport, try CampLiveOak. 830-232-4152

I hear WRE is ready for takeoff down south in Zapata. Clouds looked super today
with southerly breezes. Hopefully some of that crew will make it this far north and
beyond. It is hot and dry here.

Fly far,

In 1980 I flew my seagull seahawk from a mesa near George West Texas. Does anyone know about this place? It was only 200 feet high or so but I think you could get up and away with todays gliders.

SW Texas Footlaunch

Post by Sam Kellner »

A friend, native of George West, says it is San Cajo. Yes today's gliders are a
vast improvment over those of 25yr ago. Even some of the new single surface are
soooo sweet. Leakey is in the hillcountry, 3hr drive north of that mesquite and oil field patch.

The FL here has become known as the 'BuzOff". The site insurance is paid, thanks to
AustinFreeFlight.
The road is not yet complete to the top, even though the launch is only about 400ft agl.
I tried the USHPA Foundation Grant for help. The landowner allows us to fly there at no charge,
but will not grant an easement "forever", so that effort has stalled. The hike up for
paragliders is less than 30min.
The foot launch is open and everyone is welcome!!!

The 6th annual Texas Open/USHPA National Fly-In is scheduled for August 3,4,5, Leakey Tx.
That's after WRE finishes and before the Worlds In Big Spring. Quest Air will again
do most of our HG towing. Jeff Hunt, flytexas/flymexico, will be here too, with the trike. A big
thanks to these tug pilots!!
Vacation lodging, RV hook-ups, and camping is available at the airpark.

Super pictures of the Zapata cloud streets. Good luck at WRE.

Last week David had another good PG flight off the footlaunch. 142mi., Leakey to SanAngelo. Again it was not a spectacular day. This year does look to be record conditions
in SW Texas.

The weather forcasts look good. WRE flights, well we've read about them, haven't seen the track logs, some come overhead, some to the west a few miles.. Dustin gets some of his best thermals over the hillcountry on the Saturday flight, that's where TexasOpen is . Cu clouds have been abundant here everyday for the past week.

Aerotow provided by QuestWEST and FlyTexas. Towing available Thurs thru Monday.
Go XC or work on aerotow sign-off with some of the best instructors anywhere.
No tasks planned. Spot landing contest. Entry fee only $75.
Tent camp $10@day at the hangar.
Live music Saturday evening w/free beer. Texas bar-b-que.

Real County Airport
50mi south of I-10 on hwy 83
Leakey, Tx.

Pilots,

Anyone wishing to use the footlaunch, let me know. Try for a FL record or soar the hill.
