COLORADO FLY WEEK 2014

Post by Tiffany Smith »

The Hayden Pass Hang Gliding Club and Colorado Fly Week presents: Rocky Mtn Airmans Rendezvous & Mountain Flyer Championships. Yep, we’re back this year with big air and smooth lift along the Sangre de Cristo Range. Tiffany’s Tavern greets you in the LZ with cold refreshments. Live music, food vendors, stage shows, free camping, banquet awards dinner and more! This is the legendary fly party of the season! It’ll be great to see old friends and make new. This event caters to accomplished H2 & P2 pilots seeking their first mountain experience…but make no mistake, this site can offer up big XC miles for more intermediate and advanced pilots. An ongoing fundraiser for our launch, please consider making a donation, and/or register early-bird until April 1 for only 100 bucks and get the 2012 Fly Week DVD, versus paying $140 at the door. For info on the comp contact Fred Kaemerer, mountainflyercomp@gmail.com – for site info contact Larry Smith, 970.209.5212 – for info on DVD purchases, registration, lodging and more contact Tiffany Smith, tiffanyandlarrysmith@gmail.com

A few reviews of Colorado Fly Week 2012 and the documentary…

"Hey Tiff and Lar, so looking forward to the meet, I've been looking forward to Flyweek 2014 since before we left Flyweek 2012. Ross did such an exceptional job on the video, truly the best HG vid I've seen, he did a great job to portray what the week was like, and what the sport and the friendships within are all about. Proud to call you guys friends, and I hope you know how much we all appreciate what you guys put yourselves through to put on such a fantastic Fly-in, Keep Ross handy, we'll be looking forward to his 2014 video…Zeph"

"In the film For The Love of Flight, Ross Smith has captured not just the flying, but more importantly the spirit of the 2012 Colorado Fly Week. This short documentary draws you into the world of free flight, introduces you to the people who inhabit it, and let's you experience it through them. I have seen many hang gliding films and precious few engage you as thoroughly as this one does. Well done!" - Tom Galvin

"I just received (the DVD) last night and was blown away by it. It brought back the memories of our week there. I’ve been flying a long time, but I count two of those flights there as top flight of my lifetime, so I’m super-psyched to go again. Taking a sled-ride off of those mountains is an honor, but to get above them and fly all the way down the ridge and back a couple of times simply can’t be comprehended." - Rick Fitzpatrick

To entice you into purchasing the DVD, here is the 2.5 minute trailer…

!! :D !! the momentum gain from our Fly Week article in the May issue of USPHA's mag is outstanding! please continue to help pass the word of early registration for 100 bucks, as this offer will not last....don't let the opportunity pass you by.
in other Fly Week news, the belly dancers from last year will be kicking off our entertainment on Saturday night, Aug. 23, and you won't want to miss their performance! we're also jazzed about the other local acts we've secured like B-Real, the Funky Chickens, Alley Dust and Lupe Balazos Jug Band.
for all you campers at HQ, we'll be building an outdoor shower, so you'll really have everything you need right on site....Tiff's Tavern, awesome food vendor, porta pots and more...

Hey y'all - wow, time is flying by…only 9 1/2 weeks until Fly Week kicks off! I'm starting to get more inquiries on where to stay, so I thought I'd make a mass post to address this…

- camping is free at Fly Week headquarters. there will be porta-pots on site, a (rustic) outdoor shower and a food vendor selling 3 meals/day (to name just a few things)

- campers preferring a bit more of a facility, please check out the San Luis Valley Campground…a great little spot under 8 miles from HQ with a very clean shower house and access to a washer/dryer. if this suits your fancy, DO NOT DELAY in reserving your spot, as we've been informed that some of our attendees have already booked spots there -- they will go quickly

- for a cute and funky BnB experience, check out Always Azul, right on 285 in Villa Grove -- it's a great pottery shop that is also home to a very nice BnB upstairs. again, if this delights you, book now…

- for a nearby hotel room or yurt, Joyful Journey Hot Springs Spa is a lovely place to stay…plus you get free soaking and showers! only 10 ish miles from HG. again, BOOK NOW!

- and while you're in town, be sure to have lunch or dinner at local eatery Steel Horse Grill! the food is delicious and it's a great spot to sit outdoors and enjoy the view of the Sangre de Cristos…

Hope this helps! Please shoot me a private message or post up here if I can answer any other questions :)
