Moyes Tempest

Was there a problem with the Moyes Tempest design? It seems like a great concept.

Few were sold. Bobby Bailey will not build new ones (I asked).

What did he have to say about the design? Might be relevant...

There's nothing wrong with the design. The only thing is, once you're inside a cockpit, it's just not the same as hang gliding. The flat glide takes a while to get used to if you move into a Tempest from a hang glider.

I've got one, in great condition, for sale for anybody interested. It is in Grand Junction, Colorado. Comes on its own open trailer that is road ready.

Contact me off this list if you are interested. This is a super rare opportunity.

I believe the biggest problem was that it was marketed as an "ultralight" in US while it was way over 200lbs weight.

I don't believe that you have any actual insight into the true weight, but can tell you the one I have is not as you describe.

According to Wikipedia it's 200lbs and therefore does not qualify as an ultralight in the US.

According to the manufacturers brochure, it is 154lbs. I tend to believe the manufacturer, over wikipedia. Nevertheless, with the establishment of sport pilot, etc, part 103 is no longer needed for many aircraft operations, as evidenced by the thousands of registered fat ultralights and trikes. I can tell you that mine is under 200lbs.

Believe the owner and it does not matter if,
Your a pilot and want to register it as an experimental glider.

A simple process really and will add value.
