Cocoon query

Post by WearyandDone »

Had a cocoon harness string catch on the leg loop buckle at the end of the launch run + remain there for the entire flight/landing = $75 for a new downtube :(

How can you prevent the strings from getting caught in the leg loop buckles?

Still willing to give the coon another chance but considering switching to a pod.

Thank you in advance for your time.

How about - wrap the buckles with tape to close off the "catch points".

I have 9 years flying with a cocoon and have never had a harness string catch. But I have managed to get one under my backstrap!

Hi MikeB,

Thank you for the tape tip! Will give it a try. :)

Hey, J

You can also ask whoever is giving you a hang check to take a second look at the lines of your harness, in case they might be hanging up before you ever launch.

Keep the Cocoon

Now don't be silly, Helix :)

I flew a pod for 5 years and a cocoon for more. Never had this problem with the cocoon. I love the coon. Depends of course the "terrain"

Maybe you'd want to put a picture up of the harness in a hooked-up configuration and one can perhaps ID some obvious troubleshooters.

Cheers…keep the cocoon.

I would keep the Cocoon as well.

Risk management Janica!

If you think you are safer in a POD you should switch to one, BUT with that change comes "other" possible risks...

Good idea, Brad. Will always ask for a hang check now. But. After hang checking - that means remaining hooked in after the check right? 1 - nervous about staying hooked in while waiting in line. 2 - many pilots get cranky when anyone does a hang check on launch.

Jáco - Keeping the 'coon ^_^ May also get a HE Tracer though.

Jim - Agree 100%. This is why I am taking the longest out of my class to reach H3. Want to hit the spot perfectly 10 times in a row before considering being advanced to H3. My former nestmates make fun, but I am fine being the turtle of the bunch.

If you want to do a hang check, don't let someone talk you out of it,
its your life and safety, even if you just did one and feel you need another,
there should never be anything wrong with you being safe.

Personally I would never mind waiting while someone performs any safety check
we all love to fly, but we all want to continue to do so, so be safe, and tollerant
of those who are being safe.

:D
That's strange… It was working on the ground...

That's a good way to treat a new pilot. No wonder the ranks are swelling with so many new members.

Helix? Say it isn't so!
