math problem

Post by Lupacexi »

3 men go to a hotel, they want a room, the room costs $30

Each man pays $10 each and goes to the room.

Later that evening, the night manager comes in and finds out that the day person overcharged the 3 men by $5

He sends the bellhop to the mens room to give them back the five dollars. The bellhop figures it is too hard to divide the $5 to the three men so he keeps $2 for himself and gives each man a $1.

Each man paid $10 but received a $1 back for a total of $9 each

The bellhop keeps $2 for himself.

Where did the other dollar go?

3 x $9 = $27 + $2 = $29

So each man actually paid ($10-1) - 1/3($2)=$8.33
$8.33 X 3 = $24.99

Where did the extra penny go?

ðÿ¤”

Another way to look at it is?

+$5.00 refund devided by 3 people is $1.66666 each.
This Rounds up to $1.67 each.

$1.67 x 3 is $5.01

Someone actually made .01 cent on this transaction...

No wonder our country can never get out of debt...

The proper question is: WTF were three guys checking into the same room that cost a measly $25 a night? Does the room come with its own used heroin needles? Does the “Continental Breakfast” consist of 63% rat droppings?

you did a -3 and a +2.

what should have happened was a -3 and -2

30 - 3 - 2 = 25

or 9x3 - 2 = 25

they didn't get the -2 back so the 3 people payed 27.
