Re: Listening to the voices - Statistical Approach

While I fly with radio communication on every XC flight, I have a simple "kill switch" installed to my headset speaker wiring. I can easily turn it off/on whenever I please - it's great!

Re: Less Forum traffic?

I still read and enjoy this forum daily, along with the .ORG, but I'm participating much more in a few niche facebook forums. Pilots in my specific region, or flying my specific wing. Yeah, they're (mostly) not world-wide groups, but more focused on topics of interest to me.

Re: A better view

I really enjoyed the vid, but it felt like the drone operator went a little too far in following the pilots so closely. It was dizzying at times to watch the drone's perspective wheeling through the sky. The vid felt more like what the drone can do than the HG pilots. Less buzzing around the pilots ...

I'm jealous of you guys having Christmas and New Year in the summer. In the U.S. so many of our holidays fall in the deepest winter months, when HG is at it's worst. We have plenty of holidays in winter, but it seems only July 4th comes at a time when we might get out and have an extended flying exc...

A high percentage of poor landings. There was obviously not much wind, and I wonder if this is a high-altitude LZ. It seemed like the best landings were mainly from pilots who were already well upright at the beginning of final approach, and not messing around with hand positioning late in the appro...

Having flown the Exx for a number of years, and a couple of different ATOS’s for even longer, I can say that a significant landing difference is that the Exx is much more nose-heavy. It will beak much easier than the ATOS. If you’ve been ...

The SDHGPA article by Nik Hawks that Andrew cited was very well done. I thought Nik's comment regarding his early assumptions about helmets in HG was very common among pilots: "I also classified crashes into 2 types: Ones that kill you, and ones you walk away from. I figured you'd either be dea...

Yeah, you're not the first person to think it looks a bit Vader-esque. 8) The helmet comes in a number of color schemes, but I think the clear carbon look goes well with my all-carbon control frame and carbon instrument pod. Something else that adds to the visual appeal is how compact the helmet is ...

In the SDHGPA report's comments section is a link to Kali Protectives, and what they've been doing to improve helmet safety. Unlike typical EN966 (HG/PG) helmet manufacturers, Kali has been making major changes to improve helmet safety. The Kali Shiva is one of the very best options, IMO, for HG pil...

Does the glider’s name portend the lack of landing in the vid?

Seriously, though, my hat is off to anyone who can design and home-build such a beautiful wing!
